Safeguarding
At St Thomas we are committed to providing a safe environment for all, especially children and vulnerable adults. In particular we affirm that the welfare of the children and vulnerable adults is paramount. We are committed to providing support for all carers of children and vulnerable adults in our parish and to protecting and nurturing all members of our community. We accept and endorse the principles contained within the Chidren Acts 1989 and 2004 and in:
We affirm that abuse will not be tolerated in any form in our community and that we will take allegations of abuse, whether physical, mental or spiritual seriously and co-operate fully with the appropriate authorities in the event of an investigation being necessary. We undertake to exercise care in the selection, appointment and supervision of those working with children and vulnerable adults in either a paid or voluntary capacity in an effort to ensure the highest standards are maintained in all counseling, pastoral, educational, spiritual and recreational activities. This includes taking up enhanced references from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for those working directly with children and vulnerable adults. All of our children's workers, clergy and Church Officers have (where appropriate) been screened and checked by the DBS and have received clearance from the Safeguarding Department of the Diocese of London. The Parish Safeguarding Representative for St Thomas is Sally Nkrumah. Letitia Adamah our evidence checker for DBS, children's champion and member of the PCC and Standing Committee. For any emergency matters relating to the Protection of Children and Vulnerable people, please contact the Vicar (07841973045) or Sally (07874111661) or email the Vicar ([email protected]) or Sally ([email protected]) If you cannot reach them, then please contact the Diocese of London Diocese Safeguarding Team on 020 7932 1224. If you feel a child or adult is at immediate risk of harm, please also contact the Police by dialling 101 for non-emergencies, or 999 for emergencies. There is also a new 24 hour nationwide helpline for Church of England Child Protection matters, run by the NSPCC - their number is: 0800 80 20 20 |
A Short History of St ThomasThe original church here was built in 1889 (image to the left). The builders were Thomas Gregory and Company of Clapham, and the total cost about £5,500. The church was consecrated on 28 October 1889. During the war of 1939–45 it was severely damaged by enemy action. In 1951 the benefice was united with that of St. Andrew and St. Philip, Golborne Road to form the Parish of St Thomas with St Andrew and St Philip Kensal Town. For many years the Church Hall which escaped the bombing, served as the church until in 1967 the current St. Thomas's was rebuilt (and a vicarage added) on the site of the old St Thomas' Church . The architect was Romilly B. Craze.

St Thomas' Altar Servers
We have a group of active Altar servers who assist our worship on Sundays. Some help set things up, some carry candles and some offer the incense during the Mass. If you would like to find out how to become an Altar server, talk to Len or the Vicar. New recruits always welcome!
